SUAN PRO Ltd. seeks to develop INVESTMENT PROJECTS and in this regard in partnership with POINT SQUARE Ltd. started an agricultural project of establishment of an ORGANIC WALNUT ORCHARD.

Imame livada

Benefits achieved by establishing a walnut orchard:

9Bullet point Operational plantation for approximately 40-60 years
9Bullet point High productivity
9Bullet point Increased market demand for walnut kernels and growing prices for high quality products
9Bullet point Harnessing all products (leaves, fruits, green shells, cores, nut axles)

This project involves the application of performance walnut varieties CAZACUCODRENE and COGÂLNICEANU  will offer advantages in terms of production, walnuts quality, pest and disease resistance, adaptability to pedo-climatic specific etc. and that will ensure a qualitative, requested and competitive outgrowth on local and external market.

The project provides an action plan for min 15 years. The objectives achievement will be carried out by applying modern technology, energetically and ecologically balanced, in order to efficiently use the potential of the walnut plantation.

Walnut plantation at European standards

The orchard planting system used will be a classical one, traditional and assumes a density of 80-90 trees/ha with 10m X 12m planting distances. In a planting scheme at these distances, full-bearing trees will come in 9-10 years after planting.

Making full use of the potential of plantation

In the early years intercalated crops of agricultural plants, forage and fruit trees will be practiced. Intercropping will positively influence the walnut growth and fruition through additional fertilizers which are given according to technology and by reducing the soil humidity excess at certain times of the year.

Ensuring bio fertilizers

The best way of maintaining soil quality is using green/bio fertilizers. Until the walnut outgrowth, organic and mineral fertilizers will be used for each tree individually, the quantity varying on the tree crown projection area.

Providing drip irrigation

Irrigation is a very important technological element that enhances both walnuts productivity and production quality. It creates favorable conditions of water and aeration in soil, it allows simultaneous application of fertilizers and it maintains soil structure and texture so that the root system of the plants to grow better.

Mechanical harvesting

Harvesting is an important element in the production process, having influence on product quality through when and how it is executed. Walnut harvesting is performed early in autumn, when the green shells cracked and the kernel has a yellow color, with pronounced baked nutty flavor. Machinery used for mechanical harvesting performs the walnut tree separation by a strong strain vibration.

Mechanical processing (cleansing, drying, calibration, sorting and packing)

Once harvesting is performed, the green shells are removed, a process that can be facilitated by treating walnuts with cold water. After being washed,  walnuts are dried and stored in special rooms with good ventilation. Walnuts in shells processing is performed using special breaking, cleaning, drying,  calibration, sorting and packaging machines. A continuous technological process is followed so that at the end to receive packed and labeled walnut  kernels at the best quality ready for commercialization.

Trading (export)

Walnuts in shells and walnut kernels are commercialized in over 25 countries, the main importers of this production being France, Austria, and  Germany, followed by Greece, Spain, Italy and other countries. Lately, Moldova has also become a great supplier of walnut kernels in the European  market, the exported production being increased in the past 4 years.
